Dollarstore diva:Get great serveware pieces on the cheap

The days are ticking away! The pink party is nearly here, so before I reveal any major details I want to take a moment to share some of my fantastic, affordable party gear finds. I'm going with chic yet cheap for my upcoming mocktail party, which means some creativity with the serveware and food is definitely required.

First down the runway in this frugal home entertaining fashion show is this lovely number:

Will I be trying my hand at Asian cuisine? Wonton soup anyone? No, not at all. What I will be doing however, is serving mouthfuls of one of my appies meticulously mounded in the bowl of these darling wonton spoon, which will be nestled in a bowl o crushed ice. Presentation perfection! And the cost? A mere $.59 a piece. Forget any store that specializes in home decor, and departments stores or the like. You can find cheap wonton spoons in Toronto or probably any ethnically diverse city at an Asian grocery store for pennies.

Item #2 brings us to one of my favorite spots for treasure hunting -the dollar store. Oh yes, my darling domestinistas, the dollar store is a fab trick of the trade, best used when one needs a large quantity of glassware.

Even a mocktail party needs its signature drinks, and what's a signature drink without a sensationally iconic glass. So, voila:

At only $1.25 a piece, the  local Dollarama, is your best bet for cheap martini glasses in Toronto or pretty much anyplace else. At that price, it certainly beats $12.99 for a set of four, which is the lowest price I'd found at a few discount department stores.

Last, but certainly not least...would you believe that a magnificent cake stand just like this can be found at the dollar store for $3.25?!

This gorgeous, vintage cake stand by Imperial Glass can be purchased at Replacements.com for $139.00 OR you can DIY an equally lovely replica from a glass candle stick and a glass plate found at your local dollar store for $1.25 and $2.00 respectively, with a few extra pennies spend on embellishments. 10-second tutorial coming soon...

  2. Well that should leave you just oodles of money to buy those cheap plastic spoons and forks (why waste money on knives, nobody uses them), to go with your cheap cake plate that anyone with a good "eye" will see it was made in China.
